What sea salt smells like
Sea salt is clean, mineral and slightly briny. It has no sweetness of its own, so it works like a window in a blend, opening things up and keeping them from turning heavy. Next to driftwood, cedar and teakwood it turns into a lakeshore scent. Next to caramel or brown sugar it does the opposite and sharpens the sweetness. If you want something fresh year round without going floral or tropical, start here.
Common questions
What does a sea salt candle smell like?
Clean and mineral with a light briny edge. Think air off the water rather than a sweet beach or suntan lotion scent.
What pairs well with sea salt?
Citrus, driftwood, cedar and cardamom for a coastal feel, or caramel and vanilla if you want the salty sweet version.
Which room suits it?
Bathrooms, kitchens and bedrooms. It cuts stale air well and stays light in a small space.
Is a sea salt candle a good gift?
Yes. It is one of the easiest scents to give because it is fresh and not polarizing. US orders of $125 or more ship free.
